Stuck on setup, audio access or your license key? Or an app isn’t behaving the way you expect? You’re in the right place.

Tell us your macOS version, which app you were trying to control and what you heard, plus your output device (MacBook speakers, AirPods, that kind of thing). It really helps us reproduce the problem and fix it faster :)
Quick fixes
First, check that Mixbar has system audio access. Open System Settings › Privacy & Security › Screen & System Audio Recording. Under “System Audio Recording Only”, turn Mixbar on (use + to add it if it’s missing). Then relaunch Mixbar and click Check Access in Setup.
They stay unavailable until setup is done, including the short live sound check. You can open it with Setup… at the bottom of the panel.
Paste the key exactly as it appears on your purchase receipt. Activating needs an internet connection once. Each key works on up to 2 Macs. If Mixbar says your key is already active on 2 Macs, email us and we’ll help you move it.
That app picks its own output in its own settings (a headset chosen in Zoom, for example). Mixbar shows it but doesn’t control it. Switch the app back to the system default output and Mixbar can control it.
Apps built on WebKit share one audio process in macOS, so they show up together as one row: “Safari & other web views”.
Utilities that install their own audio driver, like Rogue Amoeba’s SoundSource, can get in the way. Quit them and try again.
Click Reset Audio at the bottom of the panel. It rebuilds Mixbar’s own audio setup and doesn’t change anything outside Mixbar. Quitting Mixbar also puts every app back to normal.
Quit Mixbar first, then turn its audio access off in System Settings. Mixbar can’t tell when that changes while it’s running.
Expected behavior, not bugs
When an app starts playing, its first moments can be at full volume before your level kicks in.
Switching output devices causes a short gap while Mixbar rebuilds its audio.
Mixbar turns apps down or mutes them. It can’t boost an app above 100%, and it doesn’t control macOS system sounds.
