Privacy Policy

The short version: Mixbar processes audio on your Mac and never records it. It has no analytics or tracking. The only thing it sends over the internet is your license key, so it can check that the key is valid.

01 / Audio

Your audio stays on your Mac

  • Mixbar reads each app’s sound only to play it straight back, in real time, at the level you choose. Audio is never recorded, saved, or sent anywhere.
  • macOS lists the permission Mixbar needs as “System Audio Recording Only”, under Privacy & Security › Screen & System Audio Recording, because that’s the system feature Mixbar is built on.
  • Mixbar never uses your microphone. macOS may still mention the microphone, because some output devices, such as AirPods, also have one.

02 / Tracking

No analytics, no tracking

  • The Mixbar app contains no analytics, advertising or tracking code.
  • This website doesn’t use cookies or analytics either.

03 / License check

The only network traffic: license verification

Mixbar is sold through Gumroad, which also checks license keys. When you activate Mixbar, and about every 14 days after that, the app sends a request to Gumroad’s license verification service containing:

  • your license key
  • Mixbar’s product ID
  • whether this check is a new activation

Like any internet request, it also reveals your IP address to Gumroad. It never includes audio, the names of the apps you use, or your volume levels.

Gumroad’s answer includes basic purchase details, such as the email address used to buy and the purchase date. Mixbar keeps these with your license in your Mac’s Keychain and shows them in Settings. Gumroad handles this data under its own privacy policy.

04 / Purchases

Buying Mixbar

Payment is handled by Gumroad; we never see your card details. Gumroad shares with us the order details it provides to sellers, such as your email address, which we use to deliver and support your license.

05 / On your Mac

What Mixbar stores locally

  • Your per-app levels, settings and setup status, in Mixbar’s preferences on your Mac.
  • Your license key and the purchase details above, in your Mac’s Keychain. Remove License in Mixbar’s Settings deletes them. Mixbar keeps only a fingerprint of the key (not the key itself), so entering the same key on that Mac again doesn’t use up another activation.

None of this is uploaded anywhere.
